A Porsche Build Sheet can provide the factory configuration recorded for a VIN, such as optional equipment, exterior and interior color, engine and transmission type, production completion date and other production details when available. It does not inspect the vehicle’s current condition or prove that every component fitted today is still the one originally installed at the factory.

In collector terminology, “Matching Numbers” requires comparing the engine and transmission identifiers currently fitted to the car with the original factory records. A Build Sheet is valuable because it establishes the original configuration, but it should not be treated as a physical authenticity inspection.
Establish the factory baseline: Compare the recorded engine type, transmission type, options and other build data with the vehicle you are inspecting.
Treat engine replacements in context: A replacement engine may have a legitimate service or warranty history. The Build Sheet alone does not show why or when a drivetrain component was replaced.
Use the right check for the right risk: Over-rev or “money shift” concerns, IMS-related work, bore scoring and the current engine condition require service records, diagnostic data or a proper pre-purchase inspection (PPI) — not the Build Sheet alone.
For eligible classic Porsche vehicles, Porsche’s Classic Technical Certificate is an example of a deeper verification process: the car is physically inspected and the current engine and transmission numbers can be checked against original records.
Porsche Paint to Sample (PTS) is a factory personalization program that gives customers access to a much broader range of colors than the standard palette. A factory-recorded special color can be an important part of a Porsche’s provenance and collector appeal, although its effect on market value depends on the model, color, condition and buyer demand.
The Build Sheet can help verify the exterior color or paint code originally recorded for the VIN, including a PTS designation when that information is present in the source. This makes it easier to compare the car’s current appearance with its factory specification. It does not, however, prove that the paint currently on the body is original — a wrap, repaint or repaired panel still requires physical inspection, paint-depth measurement or a professional pre-purchase inspection (PPI).
