Service History by VIN – Official OEM & Authorized Service Records

Request service history by VIN sourced from manufacturer and authorized-service systems (when available). This is not a free VIN decoder and it is not crowdsourced — each report is tied to the exact VIN and delivered as an online report plus a PDF.

Start with your VIN

No account needed — enter the VIN to place an order. After payment, we run the OEM lookup and deliver your report (online + PDF).

Data availability varies by brand, market and model year. You’ll receive all OEM information available for your VIN — no login required.

Why OEM service history matters

  • Authorized-network service events tied to the exact VIN (when available).
  • Mileage markers and timestamps that help spot inconsistencies (where exposed).
  • Workshop notes, job codes, and service outlet references when exposed by OEM systems.
  • Delivered as an online report plus a downloadable PDF.

Definition

What is service history by VIN?

It is a VIN-specific export from manufacturer and authorized-service systems (when available) that lists documented visits inside the authorized network. Unlike generic “VIN decoder” pages, these entries originate from service systems used during real maintenance — so you may see job codes, mileage markers, timestamps, and workshop remarks.

Auto.vin connects to OEM systems, retrieves available data for the VIN, and delivers the result as an online report plus a PDF.

Why dealers use it

  • Evidence of maintenance for listings and buyer verification.
  • Supporting documentation for warranty or claims (when applicable).
  • More transparency for remote buyers and export sales.
  • Helping resolve mileage inconsistencies with VIN-tied records (when available).

Included data

What service events may be included?

We list only events that appear in OEM / authorized-service systems (when available). No assumptions, no scraped decoder tables, and no user-submitted edits.

Dealer visits

  • Scheduled maintenance (oil, filters, inspections)
  • Warranty or goodwill repairs (when recorded)
  • Software updates, service campaigns, recalls recorded in the authorized network (when available)

Mileage & timestamps

  • Mileage markers at service visits (where exposed)
  • Visit dates based on OEM records
  • Service outlet references or location markers for entries (where exposed)

Workshop notes

  • Technician remarks and diagnostic/job codes (where exposed)
  • Parts replaced list when supplied by the service system (where exposed)
  • Paid vs warranty indicators (where exposed)

Repairs & incidents (when recorded)

  • Repair entries related to a recorded incident/event — only if logged in OEM/authorized systems and exportable for the VIN
  • This is not an insurance-claims database; incident information appears only when it exists in OEM/authorized records
  • Brands differ: some expose detailed lines, others only brief “workshop remarks” (brand dependent)

Campaigns & recalls

  • Open safety recalls tied to the VIN (when available)
  • Closed recall entries with date and service outlet reference (when available)
  • Service campaigns recorded in OEM systems, including software updates (when available)

Clarity

OEM service history vs aggregated history reports

Both can be useful. OEM service history is VIN-tied workshop data (when exposed by manufacturer systems). Aggregated reports compile information from various reporting sources.

Dimension
OEM service history
Aggregated reports
Source of data
VIN-linked records from OEM / authorized-service systems (when available)
Information aggregated from multiple reporting sources collected over time
Granularity
May include job codes, service outlet references, mileage markers, and notes (where exposed)
Often higher-level summaries; line-level workshop details may be limited
Coverage factors
Depends mainly on brand and model year, and on what OEM systems expose (often ~2012+ for digital history)
Depends on region and on the availability/quality of reporting sources
Typical delivery
Delivered after the OEM lookup (timing depends on the brand/system)
Often immediate access to an existing aggregated record
Use cases
Verification of service authenticity and VIN-tied workshop records
Broad ownership and incident snapshots where available

Troubleshooting

Why service history may be missing

If OEM systems return no entries, the report will clearly show that and list the most common reasons.

  • The vehicle was serviced outside the authorized network, so no entries exist in OEM systems.

  • The brand/market may not provide digital service exports for this model/year (sometimes only limited workshop remarks are available).

  • VIN is very new and the record has not been published in the OEM systems yet.

  • Independent workshops do not push data back to the OEM network.

  • Portal downtime, security throttling, or additional verification during lookup (we retry and notify you).

  • Brand-specific or data-privacy restrictions for certain record types in OEM systems.

FAQ

Service history FAQ

Is OEM service history available for every VIN?

Coverage depends mainly on brand and model year, and on what OEM systems expose. For many mainstream brands with digital records (often ~2012+), at least basic visit entries may be available.

Can the report include repairs or incident-related entries?

Sometimes. OEM/authorized records may include repair details or incident references only if they were recorded in the authorized network and are exportable for your VIN. This is not an insurance-claims database.

Is this a free VIN decoder?

No. Auto.vin is not a basic VIN decoder. After purchase, we retrieve available official OEM/authorized-service data for your VIN and deliver it as an online report plus a PDF.

Is the data “official” and verified?

We retrieve information from manufacturer and authorized-service sources (when available for a given VIN). We do not accept user-submitted edits. However, the report may reflect limitations or errors present in the original source systems.

How long does it take to receive the report?

Single VIN orders often deliver in minutes. Some brands or data sets may take longer depending on the manufacturer systems queried.

What formats do I receive?

You get an online report plus a PDF that can be archived or shared.

Does the report include factory configuration (build sheet)?

Checkout provides the full OEM report. It always includes factory configuration (build sheet), and service history is included when available for the VIN.
